PROBLEMS ?

------------

Welcome to another daily thought

by Rev. Chris Syamputra, Pastor of OMC Sweden

I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

                                            Matt. 6:25

This is probably my favorite Bible verse. There have been days in my life when I’ve been worried about these things as the verse describes. During my time a private English teacher, especially in the beginning when I did not have as many paying students, I wondered many times where the food was going to come from. I can remember when I could not afford to fix my shoes, which had holes in the soles.

Matthew 6:26: Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

It took me a long time to understand that I should not worry about tomorrow’s food.

Matthew 6:28: And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin,

If I were to summarize these three Bible verses and write it in a bit of modern times, I would say to you: “Do not worry about money!”

Almost everything in life is about money. Maybe I can even say that life today is mostly about money and status. We are still looking at what your neighbor buys. It is a great peer pressure at school, you have to have quality shoes and designer clothes and at home, it is a flat-screen TV that applies.

One Saturday in Indonesia, I sat and pondered how I could go to church on Sunday when I had no money, bus fare. I tried to find different solutions to the problem when it suddenly knocked on the door. It was a friend who came to visit. We sat and talked for a while, when he suddenly stood up and said: “The reason I came today was that I want to repay the 10.000 rupiah, which I borrowed from you two months ago. I’m so sorry it took so long to pay back the money.”

That was plenty of money for the bus.

I would tell many similar stories. If such an event occurs once, you might not think much about it but when you see that it repeats then you know that here is a Bible verse that has come true.

Now I trust blindly in those verses.

So I tell you:

Do not worry about:

What shall we eat

What we shall drink

And not what we should wear.

Our LORD will take care of it all.
